Comares Village
Information board

Really worth a visit is this small village. It is one of the highest white villages in Andalucía (739 metres above sea level), you can view Comares from miles around, rising high above the surrounding countryside and resembling a natural extension to the craggy rock face. It is a peaceful village where you can get a feeling of how people used to live in this little villages.. You can buy from locals handmade soap, honey and spices. At the entrance of the village is a map for a route to follow and you find your way marked with footsteps made in the ground so you do not get lost and see all there is to see..

It is a bit complicated to find the way to this village, but when you are near you find a road sign and can see from time to ttime the village on top of the mountain. The last part of the road is not so good, so best to go on a sunny day! Best is spring or autumn, in summer temperatures rise sometimes above 35 degrees. However, when familiar with the approach, the journey from Málaga airport is less than an hour, while the nearest coastal resort - Torre del Mar - is just 24 kilometres away.

One route to Comares starts at the city of Málaga. Take the old Colmenar road, A-6103, to El Puerto del León (960 metres). Immediately afterwards you must take the MA-166, which later becomes the MA-165, to Comares. The route passes through superb landscape.

The other route starts at the Mediterranean Expressway. Take the A-335 towards Vélez and Alhama de Granada. At Trapiche turn onto the MA-145 and once you are past Benamargosa continue by way of the MA-169 and later the MA-169, which leads straight to Comares.

Church

The sculpure depicts a man singing verdiales. In Comares, they love this song style, a very old "cante" that, like flamenco, was born from the Moorish collections of ballads.
The monument stands in a square on the westernmost rise in the village. From this scenic viewpoint you can see the old roads connecting the area with the rest of the province of Malaga.

Verdiales
When you follow the footsteps on the street you find from time a sign like on the left with the infomation about the place where you are.
