The property was originally built by Málaga’s famous Marquis of Larios as a hunting lodge. As such, it enjoys a secluded mountain location and has hosted several notable guests, such as King Alfonso XIII and Charles de Gaulle. In more recent years the hotel has added a tennis court, outdoor swimming pool and sun terraces to provide you with the ideal location for a peaceful rural getaway.

The complex also includes several conference rooms with audio-visual equipment, hosting a maximum of 60 people.

Area information

The property is set in an area of great natural beauty, filled with pine forests, wild flowers and rare wildlife (particularly a variety of eagles). The local forests are crossed with well-marked pathways, allowing you to enjoy the scenery in comfort. You can even book 4x4 tours of the park from the hotel reception.

Towards the coast, you will find Marbella just 15 km away, and a number of golf courses also within 15 km.

The El Refugio de Juanar kitchen prides itself of supplying tasty food inspired in the surrounding Landscape, where game dishes are a speciality: marinated partridge, venison, pheasant, quail, and, during hunting season, mountain goat. Seasonal vegetables are also very popular between our clients. We also recommend our delicious typical Spanish dishes such as the so famous Segovia-style roast suckling pig, lamb and roast kid, along with an array of international dishes.

El Refugio del Juanar also has a “Bodega” with more than 7.000 bottles of Rioja, Ribera del Duero…Just the best selection of Spanish wines.

The "Refugio del Juanar" has rooms for up to 60 people, distributed in 20 double rooms, 1 single and 4 suites, all of them spacious and with lovely rustic wood decoration, direct phone (fixed and wireless), central heating (air conditioning is not necessary), room service, etc. Some of them face east and the rest face west.
Our suites or special rooms, also have chimney and Jacuzzi.
